Postponement

Last week the college was closed all week apart from Tuesday because of the snow! This wasn't good! All productions were postponed and now most of the group are playing catch up. I have now planned two Live Projects. One is Jess' which will be filmed during our week off (13th December-17th December) and Andy's which is planned for the 7th of January. My Zombie-like film is all sorted, all we need to do is choose a date to shoot. This is going to be tricky because of the snow because we are filming outside but now it is dying down I think we can get it filmed just before we break up or the first few days coming back after Christmas!

In other news, my Specialism pitch ('The Imagination of Little Tommy Murdoch') was chosen. This means I have to write, direct, animate and edit it all myself which is going to be difficult but I'm going to give it my best shot. I wanted to specialise in Scriptwriting but my other pitches weren't chosen and doing this film will take up a lot of my time so I think it's for the best.

SNOW!!!

AAAARGH! Living in Middlesbrough isn't always the warmest place to live, but the past couple of days has been like living in Switzerland. The snow has been constant and yesterday college was cancelled causing a lot of trouble for the groups. Shoots that were organsised had to be cancelled and the work I was planning on doing had to be postponed.

In lighter news, I want to specialise in scriptwriting. So I have sent my tutors two stories which I have written. Because I want to specialise in this area I need to write three scripts so I'm currently writing a third story. Also, because scriptwriting is only 15 Credits and I need a minimum of 30 Credits, I will have to direct one to get the minimum score.
The two stories I have written are 'The Imagination of Little Tommy Murdoch' and 'Saviour'. Currently I am writing a children's comedy/horror.

R.T.S Aftermath

Oooooo! No award given to the animation segment?!?!
To me that is just out of order, three animations (all from the same university) were nominated for the Animation Award but none of them seemed to win because the R.T.S board didn't think they were up to scratch.

R.T.S

Well, its the Royal Television Society awards tonight and my course are going to it, this year they are based in York. After missing out on last year because of "THE NUMBER 23 PROJECT!" I am looking forward to what they have in store. Im now just waiting for the coach to get here so we can head off to what I expect to be a great night.

In other work related areas, we did a run through of the full first drafted (third draft for my horror segment) script. After finally getting the musical section, we read through the full thing and it seemed to gel well together with some genres relating back to other genres that have already been on. I think that this is a good trick to tie the story together. However, when we got to my section of scripts the time seemed to elapse to quick and when the P.A told us we had six minutes to go. So I think that the scriptwriting team needed to have a quick meeting which will be tomorrow. We had the idea of using a "Life Story" to fill up the time, I think this is a great idea because it gives the characters more depth and relates back to the ending were they are going to voted off like on a talent show.

That's it for now, the bus will be here soon.

Worky Work!

Well, I've got a lot of work on now. So I've been busy doing that which is why my blog looks a little empty. But now I will be doing posts almost every day.

Multi-cam :

First drafts of scripts done (need to type up introduction and ending) / Set design done / Lighting design (almost done) / Sound design (many to choose from).
I have found many actors on Casting Call Pro which I need to type up the details for for the producers and directors. However, it looks as though we have got a good selection of actors who came in for the auditions on the 2nd November.

Wool Room (Live Project):

'Zombie' : Script and treatment done / Storyboard done (needs a little tweaking) / Actors looked at (DECISION!) / I NEED DUVETS!!!

'Crash' : Andy wants a name change! Script done / Prop list done (need to get them from The Wool Room).

'Farmer' : Sheep prototype made (GET WIRE FOR THE SKELETON!) / Treatment done / Designs for farmer and set in process.

Lighting Presentation:

DONE AND DUSTED!

Professional Studies:

Interviews: I was the interviewer for a mock interview which was based around becoming a runner for the BBC, I think I did a pretty good job in this and myself and Karl Keenen had a decent crack at it. I feel that I had the knowledge of the subject topic and Karl knew exactly what the interview board wanted to see in a candidate for the BBC.

I think thats it for now,

Zombie!

Hey there!
Well this is my first ever blog, so be gentle.
Last week everyone on the course had to pitch an idea for one of the following:
  • Wool Room (an internet based company who sell woollen products)
  • Yellowcayke (a band)
  • CCAD Promo (a short film based around Cleveland College of Art and Design)
  • Or your own personally found client/company, who are willing to let you film something for them.
I decided to pitch for the Wool Room. I wrote two pitches, the first one was about a tired man who is going to bed because of his lack of sleep. So, when I was writing this pitch I had the idea of a man walking up the stairs and reaching the first bedroom. After walking through the first door he would fall to the floor and hit his head off it, the flooring would be made of brick. After getting up and rubbing his head he goes toward the second room. He hits the floor again but the flooring is laminate, this still hurts him. Finally, he reaches the third door. The flooring in this room is made of wool, an angelic choir play in the background and a heavenly light appears around the characters head. He floats like a feather to the floor and goes to sleep.

However, I didn't feel this was strong enough so I pitched another story.
The other story was about another tired man who is watching television. On the television is a news report but the sound coming from the TV is inaudible so we don't know what the reporter is talking about. This report makes the man get up from his chair and walk out of his house. Outside there are a lot more lazy looking people (Zombie-like!) all heading towards one direction. The scene cuts to another place with all the "Zombie's" heading in the same direction still. We then see a giant, hovering woollen duvet in the centre of a town. A lot of people are sleeping on this duvet, the main character then joins them. On the other side of the duvet are other people looking refreshed. One of them then says the slogan I came up with : "The Wool Room, Have You Heard the Good News?"

From all the pitches that were pitched my "Zombie" one and 3 others got chosen. I was very pleased with this and have decided in the crews that we have been put in that I want to direct this one. In the other three Wool Room pitches I am crewing for 2 other ones, one of them is an animation which I can't wait to get started on.

Besides the pitches, I have been working on writing part of the script for our groups Multi-cam project. My parts include Horror and Romance, I am also ending the show (so I need to end it with a bang!). All the treatments are done and I reckon the final piece will look great. During our Multi-cam project I am on sound and two cameras which I happy with (even though I need to study the sound booth more!). Also I am 2nd Unit director for one of the adverts which are going to play during the Multi-cam live show.

Well I'm off, check out the blog!
